Depression

Cold. Isolated. Imploding.

There aren’t many words that can perfectly encompass depression.

It’s an all-consuming, over-powering weight of desolation.

Crushing thoughts of:

“I am a failure.”

“I want out.”

“There’s no hope.”

Depression is a flood of hopelessness.

You’re screaming on the inside, desperate to punch something, but you can’t move.

Depression is not sadness. Depression is not crying. Depression is not wearing black.

It is numbness.

You are numb to emotions. You are numb to life.

Prisoner to your thoughts and….

Trapped in a cage while fog builds all around you. There’s no key in sight.

Friends aren’t the solution to wellness.

People shout, “How are you?”

But all you hear is, “Are you over it yet?”

Meanwhile, they keep laughing and moving about their lives.

But your depression has wiped away any memory of wellness.

Depression has many causes.

Sometimes, a specific event causes the surge of depression, such as the loss of a friend or loved one, a traumatic event, the end of a relationship, or losing a job.

Depression also can stem from repeated experiences of shame and guilt throughout your life. You’re told over and over that you are bad, until you believe it.

Maybe depression runs in your family.

Perhaps it hit you out of nowhere, and it doesn’t make sense. “I don’t recognize myself at all.”

Then there’s depression + anxiety.

It’s being scared and tired at the same time.

Fear of failure consumes you, but motivation has vanished. You don’t want to be alone and dread being around other people.

You’re utterly numb and feel everything at once.

You deserve more. You deserve help.

How you feel does not control you.

No matter what is holding you down, I’ll be with you to shine a light on the darkness.

We’ll navigate your present, past, family history, support systems, traumas, and losses to find the way out for you.

Time to find hope.

Depression lives in the body and gets trapped in the mind.

To find hope, we’ll utilize approaches that honor both the physical and mental spaces. Integrating mindfulness, gestalt, and somatic techniques will help you move forward.

You’ll learn effective coping skills, identify negative thought patterns, explore your values, and release painful memories holding you down.

The best way out is always through.
